Synoptic patterns of severe hailstorm events in Spain

A study of severe hailstorm (with size ?3 cm) over Spain has been conducted using 8 years (2012–2019) data. The 73 events heavy hail selected were classified the moisture flux at 850 hPa pressure level (qv)850 and lifted index (LI) as variables a principal component analysis, coupled with K-means clustering, statistical technique. application this procedure provided four groups their respective final cluster centre. We studied cases, for being close to each It was found that high values low levels (~ 89 g m/kg s on average) are accompanied by static instability (SBCAPE ~600 j/kg average LI ~ ?4). temperature exceeded 20 °C range between ?10 ? 500 level. most typical configuration corresponded geopotential thermal trough mean troposphere levels. Likewise, precipitable water (> 25 kg/m2) have detected presence storm relative helicity shear moderate or strong in all cases.
